hey Jenn,

i've just noticed something that may have beeen brought to your attention before, but i'll ask anyway. in the topic folders you have the most recent page listed first. however, when it comes to the individual topic, the topic starting page is first; which does make sense so one can know what the topic is about, yet also leads to the confusion expirienced by E. i sometimes find it bothersome, maybe that too strong of a word, but if i'm checking on a topic and i'm not at school with T-1, having to click on the topic, wait for it to download, then click on the last page number wait for it, takes forever. even when someone has posted recently and the topic is active, the link sends you to the first page instead of the post. hmmm... is that an error experienced on my end?

being one to post some doozies in the past (which i'll blame on sleep deprivation and the sort ) i don't encourage idiacy but i admit to have actively participated in it; which is usually followed by some sort of disclaimer. how can we avoid further mishaps of the nature experienced by E. Who is it that signs with "let good come of it"? that is what i'm trying to extend in this post. can we make any good come of it?

daniel

The "clicking on the title" takes you to the first page. That is part of the software and not something I am inclined to "hack". It is possible that the newer version of UBB takes this into account. I haven't had the op to go and see what new bells and whistles they have added since my last update.

I prefer a linear approach to bulletin boards. I personally find it difficult to read "backwards"... latest post first and have to go backward to the very beginning to find out what is going on. Just a personal preference. I really hate it when people do this in an email.

I fully understand the issues surrounding dial-up access and on occasion suffer with everyone else who doesn't have a substantial pipe to travel along. I am lucky if at home I can manage to squeeze 48 out of my modem. Believe me, I know what SLOW is... to date myself... try AOL c 1989 on a 2400 baud modem. The old timers will know what I am talking about.

I don't think there is an easy answer as to how to best deal with this issue. It occasionally happens when someone doesn't check the first post date (not a big deal). We've seen a lot of thread re-activation lately and in some cases this has been good.

Most of the boards I have been on go with the default setting and list the start of the thread first. So to find one going in the other direction is not the 'norm' in my experience. To change ours, I feel the need to quote TREK and say "the needs of the many..." However, if the FS community would like to see it go the other way I will entertain thoughts on this...
