I need to clean a piece of 15th C leather. Due to advise a few years ago (not here) I put harness honey on it and it really darkened the leather and it's just not as pretty. Also I noticed stuffing on the floor the other day and need to find a way to fix that part. Please don't tell me to do it with something I'll never be able to find. I need explicit instructions as I no nothing of conserving leather. I also posted to the Miscellaneous forum requesting availability of a reliable source who can forge a pin for me as I'm missing one. Thank you for your assistance.

You might try contacting a leather restoration expert.

This gentleman works in the UK. He has a email inquiry form. Perhaps he can offer some advice that will be way above what most of us might be able to offer.

Thanks for the link. He offers a course on restoration but it's an awfully long way from KY... I'll check his links. Really this old saddle needs and deserves a professional not an amateur clunking around on it like me. Bet he'd charge a whole bunch for restoration but it doesn't hurt to ask.

The Director of the Museum of the Horse in Lexington sent me a real good photo this morning of a saddle of QEI they had on display there sometime ago. It's an excellent closeup if anyone is interested in seeing it. I don't know how to post it to this forum however.
