Hello, anyone got any advice or experience of making two-piece (forehand and quarters), full-hood horse trappers? I'm making some at the moment, out of heavy linen, and would like some help!

Macha,

I have a copy of a full caparison pattern that was modified from one in Juan de Alcega's tailors book. Let me know if you would like me to email it to you

Dahlin', this can't be real emergency, I only brought one bottle of bourbon and one bottle of Tabasco...

Thanks very much! Yes, please do e-mail the pattern to me. Also, has anyone contacts for a copy of Gervaise Markham's book?

I am not certain if this represents the whole document, somehow I doubt it, but if it is the same book I have, it is a 'cute' version of the Compleat Horseman.

What are you using for binding your hood eye openings and every where else for that matter. I made some of my own binding and even though I cut on the bias it was not cooperating. I am hoping Angelique will send a copy of the pattern she has to me as well. And, are you using a commercial sewing machine or ???? Just wondering.

I seem to have misplaced my electronic copy -- goodness knows, my S.O. is constantly "cleaning" our systems, so it probably went to that great recycle bin in the sky. However, here are links for it on line: Page 1
Page 2
Page 3

I have made my own binding using a bias tape maker and I have simply done narrow handkerchief style hems as well for eye and ear holes. You can also line your caparison, but please make it from breathable fabrics, your horse will thank you.

No, I don't have a commercial sewing machine, but I do have a fabulous Necchi with metal gears. A lot of new machines have plastic gears and they just won't hold up for very long if you are sewing heavy fabrics or multiple layers.

Hope that helps!

The pattern information is great, I already have some different ideas. Thanks for the tip on the handkerchief hem, I had not thought of that. There are a couple of pieces I will have to try it on tonight.
