Here is a picture of the bit I made for Bella.

It's based on a speculative drawing in Harmand's book about Jean d'Arc's clothing, armour and other kit.

I haven't translated the text relating to the bit, but this type appears in paintings regularly. It provided me with the double reining I've wanted for a while, though I primarily use the direct reins. The curb reins provide lots of leverage, and I plan to work with Bella in developing the right understanding of this rein work.

Very pretty work.

What metal did you use, mild steel?

Have you noticed how much or how little play there is between the bit and the cheek pieces? I have only had the opportunity to look at very worn extant bit examples which of course were so worn they would pinch the corners of the poor horse's mouth and I always wondered how much one in good condition might have.

Be well,
Acelynn
