I was putting away fabric tonight at the shop and realized just how many "small ends" I have lying around. This ranges from large offcuts from garment making (called "cabbage", in period, if anyone's interested) to rather larger (up to 1/2 yard) pieces left over when I finish a roll. I have white and colored linen, wool, silk, etc.I find these bits great for small projects and assorted uses (charcloth, paper making, helmet liners, coifs, ditty bags, armour polishing cloths, face cloths, bulwarks, shoe liners, pouches, hats, etc.) I also have a large bag of wool jersey scraps that would be good for women's stockings. I have so much that I and everyone close by is well supplied for small projects. It occurs however, that some of you might be able to use it. I would be happy to send anyone who asks a box of this stuff if you'll pay the shipping. I won't charge anything for the fabric itself, just the shipping. Email me the kind of scraps you want (linen, wool, etc) and any colors you're looking for particularly and I'll try to send you something you can use. Telling me what you'll be using it for would also be helpful. Also give me an idea of how much you want ("just a few pieces of linen", "a big box of assorted stuff to share with the whole group", etc.) Oh, yes- first come, first served! Gwen

A late-breaking addendum to this thread....Mitake / Anna Ridley contacted me about obtaining some of these fabric scraps as she made "little pouches with tablet-woven edges", and could use some of the wool for this project. I didn't think much about it, but was glad that more of these scraps wouldn't end up in a landfill. I sent her a box of scraps and thought no more of it. Low and behold, today I receive a Priority Mail envelope with one of her lovely creations inside! She thought I "might like to have one" since I sent her the fabric. This is AMAZING!!! The pouches' side edges are closed with lovely (and nicely done) integral tablet weaving; at the top, the weaving splits in 2 and covers the top edge of the pouch. The pouches' strings are made of incredibly fine tablet woven strings, and the bottom edge is finished with 3 tassels. It looks just like the ones in the MOL books! This was a *wonderful* suprise and I'm absolutely tickled about the whole thing!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you Mitake!!! Gwen

I've made one of those too....but am unhappy with the closure. What do you use to close the pouchlet? Right now I just have a piece of thread running through the tablet weaving, but its flimsy and doesnt really stay closed well. so, oh expert, what didyou do? --AM who uses her for dice and gambling money

I use a double drawstring placed about 1/2" down from the top edge. Recently for the strings I've been using one of the flat finger loop braids, the green dorge, but any of the smaller ones seem to work well. I use an awl to open a hole without cutting the fibers and thread the braid through loops first. An example of this would be the pouch on the table in the Merode Altarpiece. If you use an even number of holes on each side, I find six works well, then the pouch will collapse into even pleats when closed. I'll try and post a couple of pictures tonight. Mitake, who is looking for some cool dice now that she and her friends have taken up gambling during long feasts.
