So hey, History Channel showed a decent thing (for once), a repeat episode of Lost Worlds - Knights Templar (or alternatively called Lost Worlds - Tortosa). So this was about the castle / town Tortosa in the Outremer, and others in the KT network, like austere Chastel Blanc and monstrous Krak des Chevaliers (one that Lawrence of Arabia seemed to). Smart pithy commentary by ARMA advisor Dr. David Nicolle and some other guys. Really informative enjoyable episode. You may look for another repeat, or HC probably sells it on DVD.

I missed that, unfortunately, and saw instead the drek on 'digging for the truth', about the holy grail (the fighting he participated in looked awful.

It was interesting to see the digging at Acre, though.

The show on the Knights Templar was one I really enjoyed. I also liked one I saw recently on the fortifications of Constantinople. I think it was part of the "Building of an Empire" series.

Yeah, whichever series it was part of, the Constantinople thing was cool. In fact, they had like two recent Byzantine things, both good.

Although the Templar thing talked about all sorts of cool stuff, it did not address who the engineers were for the massive projects. I assume it was French-Norman guys, but the possibility of Byzantine help (either borrowed or forced) seems possible. I really do not know.

When you consider that the Byzantines were probably the most advanced engineers of the time period, smart builders would have at least hired them as consultants on massive engineering projects.

Don't you love it when you can't prove or disprove something that makes perfect sense??
