Does anybody have any information on late medieval copper alloy mirror cases? I am specifically interested in the small (approx an inch in diameter?) ones, such as those in the Museum of London catalogues (as opposed to the larger, more ornate ivory ones).

I know that they're a relatively common find in England, and there is the suggested religious use to 'capture the image' of shrines etc (but I'm unaware of any primary evidence to back this up, then again, I've only just started looking!).

I have a fragment of one, and a nice replica from White Rose castings.

I know that there was an article written on them in the 1987 issue of 'Treasure hunting' (a metal detectorist magazine), by Keith Fellowes, but I've been unable to track down a copy yet.

Any information on construction, use, etc would be of great help,
Thanks,
Vicky
