Hi everybody,
I'm at the moment actively looking for any archaeological remains of 14th or 15th c. leather gloves, either civilian or military. Does anyone know something about published drawings, photos, notes, etc...? I ever have some infos about fragments excavated in France, but nothing sufficient to begin a reconstruction.
Any help welcome...
From Périgord,
Gascoing.

There are at least two gloves from 15th or 14th century in the museum of national antiquities in Stockholm. They are both very well preserved. About 1,5 year ago I promised John Howe a technical drawing of these for Dragon magazine so I suppose this is the time to get some action...

However, they look almost exactly the same as modern gloves, so don´t get disappointed

Henrik,

Thanks for the info.
I'm not that disappointed by the fact that they're similar to modern gloves... Well, statuary evidences prove it quite clearly, and the fragments that I know are just the same as contemporary gloves ones. I just need a solid archaeological specimen to cross with my own sources, so as to have sufficiently documentation to make a reproduction.
So, if you were to make a technical drawing of the gloves in Stockholm, I'd be quite interested... Or just let me know when you'll have sent it to John, I'll ask him to make a copy for me, with your permission.
Nota bene: patterns and stitching types infos mostly welcome...
With best regards,

Gascoing

Hi Talbot,
Has a drawing and/or description of those gloves been published anywhere?
