Throughout the 1990's, one organization has been at the forefront of historical fencing studies. That organization now has a proud new name. HACA is now the ARMA! We are excited to announce the HACA is now the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts! - ARMA (pronounced 'arm-uh'). The word "arma" means "weapons" and it signifies for us the modern "renaissance" now underway in our subject.
The transition to the ARMA signifies for us a refocusing of vision and a renewed direction. We have expanded our scope. The ARMA continues the same basic philosophy of HACA with a new emphasis on increasing the credibility, legitimacy, and standards of practice within this subject. To learn all about it visit www.thearma.org/about.htm or www.thehaca.com/about.htm. Please note, the new name does not mean we are going to pay less attention to the study of Medieval combat skills, far from it.
To celebrate our new name change we are presenting loads of new online features for the historical fencing community. We've added a massive amount of material: more articles, historical manuals, training tips, essays, interviews, study resources, and more. We've been busy for many months preparing our transition and to inaugurate ARMA our newest additions include:

And this is the just the beginning! We have still more coming in the next few months, such as Antonio Quintino's "Jewels of Wisdom" fencing material of 1614, plus some very special surprises. We will soon be adding more video clips, additional training tips, interviews, expansions, special member's materials, and yet more historical manuals.
ARMA will aim to offer guidance and support to new enthusiasts and experienced students alike, provide training tips and study materials to our members, and strive to bring a higher degree of integrity, dignity, and authority to this subject. We truly are in a "renaissance" of historical European martial arts!
