I recently got some very nice wool from Gaston. I'm thinking about trying my hand on a Bocksten Tunic. Can anyone direct me to a pattern for the tunic? Does anybody make a full size pattern I won't have to try and expand, or drape? I'll post pics when it's done. Thanx!!

The bockstenmannen tunic is very much based on geometry and can be created without having to drape a patter. Try the website below for a discussion on adapting it to your needs.

Having made *hundreds* of these tunics, please allow me to offer a caveat.

The pattern makes a full length gown, so the gores are going to be WAY too wide if you shorten it to a tunic.

Also, if you use the shoulder to shoulder measurement to cut the front/back panels, there is an 80% chance that the chest will be too tight.

If you look at Marc Carlson's site, you can see that the Bocksten tunic tapers down at the wrist. The underarm gussets are the pieces which have been cut off the wrist area.

If you send me your address, I'll be happy to send you a cutting schematic that takes 2 1/8 yards of 60" wide fabric to make a Bocksten tunic.

I love this pattern. I think it's because of the geometry to it. My lady says I'm not a seamster or a tailor, I'm a clothing engineer.

FWIW, here's Marc Carlson's Bokten Tunic page. Although I was quite new to costuming/sewing in general at the time, I found that neither page really had all the information I wanted by itself. The two together, however, are very nice.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
