Hi all, does anyone have a design for a medieval accounting board, jettons (counting pieces), and an idea on how one is used? One of the Eye Witness books has a picture of a corner of one, but no real info. Jenn [ 04-26-2001: Message edited by: Fire Stryker ] -------------------- ad finem fidelis

They are pictured on the backs of several 16th C. German (Nuremburg) jetons. Specifically those by Hans Zwingel (and others) have illustrations.-------------------- Doug Strong doug-strong@comcast.net http://armourresearchsociety.org http://talbotsfineaccessories.com Armour patterns, shoemaking books, reproductions buckles, jewelry and accessories. I am not familiar with Hans Zwingel and would be dealing with 15th C Burgundy. (The Burgundians are running rampant around here. -- heraldic pun not intended.)
The boards themselves are pictured. I have one but the picture is not not particularly good. http://208.56.217.90/graphics/1216.JPG -------------------- Doug Strong doug-strong@comcast.net http://armourresearchsociety.org http://talbotsfineaccessories.com Armour patterns, shoemaking books, reproductions buckles, jewelry and accessories. This is rather an old thread -- but I'm a new member, wandering through the boards. The Coin Club of Chicago has an excellent page:Perspectives in Numismatics - Jetons: Their Use and History Address:http://www.ece.iit.edu/~prh/coins/PiN/juh.html Early jetons are often offered on eBay & go quite cheaply (search under "Coins: anc. & medieval" -- sometimes they're spelled 'jettons'). These are mostly late 16th cent. Nuremburg jetons, but earlier ones occasionally show up. -------------------- Jno

Jno,Thanks for posting that article. It explained a lot. They even have some good images of jetons of the time. Jenn [ 10-21-2001: Message edited by: Fire Stryker ]
