I was looking through Oakeshott's book A Knight and His Horse the other day. In the back he had mentioned that Joan of Arc was very good at tilting. Does anyone know where this idea came from and whether or not it is true?

Does he mean the actual tilt in which she goes head to head with a knight or is he suggesting that she was good with a lance and going against the quintain or catching the ring?

Could be either as the term is sometimes used to describe either. However, the term tilting is most often associated with the ring, quintain and popinjay rather than jousting with another rider.
