Greetings, all!
hey everyone...
just an announcement about our tavern night, April 28th at 6pm at Genots house. Yes, I know most of you cant come , but thought you might be intersted in what we're doing up here.

It will be a "persona" potluck, where we set up a pavilion in Genot's backyard, then sit around telling stories and eating good food all evening. Don't forget your story/poem/song to share!

[I told them everyone should bring a song/story/poem to share. Rules below.]

-- this should be a lot of fun, and will help keep us on track and in period.

I'm offering three choices for our potluck:
a) you may choose and cook a documentable 15th century dish, letting me know by 4/13 what that dish will be (I suggest simple dishes -- a stew or meat pie, or perhaps a vegetable dish);

b) you may choose to be guided by me in the choice of a dish to cook (reconstructed recipes gladly provided);
c) you may bring food that requires little or no preparation (bread, semisoft cheeses, pickles, fruit, etc.) -- this also requires letting me know what you'd like to bring.

In any case, please bring your own alcoholic beverages and please bring food that requires little or no onsite preparation -- microwave reheating okay -- I'd like to try and minimize the amount of time we spend in the house and out of persona.

See you all there,
Genot

(You've been sent this e-mail because you indicated an interest in attending this event. Please let me know whether you intend to attend by 4/13, and what your food choices are, so that arrangements can be as organized as possible.)

Date/time: 4/21 (Sat.), 6-10PM
Location: 6211 S Ryan St., Seattle (directions will be sent out later)
Phone: (206) 722-8981
Bring: food to share, your own drink and seating, and entertainment for all

the "rules" for the story/song/poems I want folks to bring...

1. the story must be from a documentably appropriate source (ie applicable
to 15th century folks)
2. the story must be told from memory
3. the story can be any length but if you bore us we may pelt you with
stale ruzzige cake

potential sources (by no means an exhaustive list)...
1. Life and Times of a Medieval Woman, the Story of Margery Kemp
2. Chaucers tales
3. the Decameron
4. Legends of the Middle Ages
5. Louis IX
6. the stuff on Margaret of York that Keegan posted
7. Malory and "le Morte d'Arthur" http://www.legends.dm.net/kingarthur/malory.html
8. El Cid http://www.legends.dm.net/paladins/cid.html
9. French chansons http://www.legends.dm.net/paladins/index.html
10. Song of Roland http://www.legends.dm.net/paladins/roland.html
11. stories of various favorite saints http://www.gloriana.nu/miracles.html
12. the story of Beatrijs http://www.kb.nl/kb/100hoogte/hh-en/hh007-en.html
13. Abelard and Heloise
14. Jean of Arc....saint or nutcase?
15. the story of the Golem http://www.radio.cz/english/archive/10-2-99.html

of course you can find a jillion things at: http://www.netserf.org

they have tons of books and manuscripts on line...browse away!

I'll let y'all know how it turns out! and of course, if anyone is up in our neck of the woods, feel free to drop by.

hey all from AM
Just wanted to tell you how much fun we had at the Trois Chats Tavern....we decked Genots backyard out with a a large pavilion and a groaning board of food. People came already in costume and wehre shown the "tavern". No one went into the house except to use the privvy and we happily stayed in persona all night! Everyone came with a story or soemthing to entertain (Matteus juggled...he's been practicing and it shows!). Cornelia told us a story of St Cecelia (a lovely love story). Cassia told us a story of gore and horror (very effective in the candlelight). Beatrix told us the Milllers tale from Chaucer. I shared a couple antecdotes from the lives of Louis the Spider and Charles the Rash, and Laurens won the contest for his tale of a chivalric knight winning back the love of his lady wife. (moral...never tell a wandering harper he can have ANYTHING as a reward....)

The menu was lamb stew, frumenty, salad, honeyed carrots, roast chicken, rice pudding and stewed cherries. We drank cider, beer, wine and home made mead.

much fun was had by all, and the gang was eager to schedule another one for the fall.
