Well, we’ve just had our monthly Red Company meeting, and boy am I ever stoked!! We had ***6*** new members show up!!! Now that may not sound like a lot to you, but that number equals 50% of the current roster!

At least as exciting as the sheer volume are the quality of recruits- John Vernier is a very competent armourer and artisan, Gordon & Janet are extremely skilled and enthusiastic costumers, Jon is a crossover black powder reenactor who wants to do 15th C., and Maureen & Sean are long time SCAers and friends who are moving on to a different period. Everyone is so enthusiastic and excited about doing this that it really breathes new life into me.

The diversity of portrayals for the incoming group is a very exciting bonus. John will be portraying the Company armourer; having worked for Tristan maintaining the Company’s equipment in Bruges, he has come with us “on the road” as it were.

Gordon will portray a lower-level secretary assigned to our unit as a chronicler to report back to Charles. Gordon says he likes to think of it as being a “war correspondent”, and Jeff says he works for the BBC- Burgundian Broadcasting Company. Gordon is a medieval musicologist and musician in real life, so he will also be able to join the “Red Company Jug Band”, accompanying Jeff’s hurdy gurdy and Geoffrey’s guitarra with this organetto. Gordon’s wife Janet will have come along with her husband to see some of the world. A rather sheltered housewife, she is entranced and a bit overwhelmed by all the goings on, but thrilled at her husband’s new appointment.

Maureen spins, weaves and does other assorted handcrafts. This will be a welcome addition, as I nor any of the other women know these arts and it will be good to see them in camp. Sean & Jon will help fill out the soldier ranks and help make the pike square even more imposing.

The May event is shaping up splendidly, due in part to our new recruits and due also to some of our friends who will be joining us.

AM will be coming in from Seattle
Jamie & Rookie will be coming in from North Carolina
Jeff J. may be coming in from Virginia

All together, it looks as though we’ll have between 25-30 members of the Red Company / friends of Red Company in attendance, plus whatever members of the Yeoman Archers attend.

Happy dance, happy dance, happy dance- I’m so jazzed!!!!!!!!!

I got an invite from you folks last year to do the Faire in Vegas with you if I could make it down there. I couldn't and asked for a rain-check. Are you going to do that Faire this year again? I'd be honored to join you this year. Or at Ft MacArthur in July! With this amount of time to plan I think I might be able to make it. Just a question in parting...would a maille coif and Kettle helm be apropriate for a pikeman of the 1470's?

Hi Ned, sorry it took me a while to respond, but I'm still a bit shell-shocked from the event...

You are certainly welcome to participate with the Red Co. at either Ft. Mac or Vegas, and I'm sure Geoffrey Talbot would be delighted to have another archer around. If you'd like to participate, please get with us off-board to let us know what kit items you'll need to borrow. We have plenty to loan, and you're a very regular size, IIRC.

BTW, we'd have to see the coif and kettle hat to tell you if it was appropriate.
