Hi, I am making a new scabbard and sword belt for a 15thc sword. I am looking for a set of directions on how to do the 15thC sword belt where the leather is wrapped and tied around the scabbard.Thanks. -------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

Bob's has silver fittings that have loops set into them which allow his scabbard to hang from the belt (has fittings with hooks that go through the loops on the scabbard). Nothing ties on his. I will see if I can get him to give full construction details on his. It's not the same one that is pictured when he is shown in full armour on Normandie on the IJA forum. It's a different set up. It is really quite lovely. J -------------------- ad finem fidelis

Some pics of the new woodcored scabbard I have made. The parrallel risers are for the belt suspension. This is the first scabbard I have made and I am pretty happy with it. I still have to finish sewing the seam up the back and fitting the chape properly. My next project is to redo the grip. -------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

Hello,Very nice scabbard. Do you mind sharing how you did the risers? I may be able to help you with some pictures as to how to tie up a sword. I just need to put them up on line and provide the links. Please check back by the end of the week unless someone else beats me to the punch. -------------------- Db D'rustynail

Thanks for that. The risers are 3mm cord that is glued to the wood. -------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

That is really nice looking Rod. Did you make the chape or buy it? If you made it I wanted to know do you have a seam in the back or is it cast. Thanks James Barker [ 01-09-2006: Message edited by: Flonzy ] [ 01-09-2006: Message edited by: Flonzy ] -------------------- James Barker Lord Grey's Retinue http://www.lordgreys.org

The chape came with the original leather scabbard Towton Sword ReviewIt was pretty good so I cleaned it up, rehaped it a bit and re-used it. I will start making my own chapes and lockets if I make some more of these. Not quite sure how I will do it yet. -------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

Thanks for that. I actually finished the scabbard belt this weekend and worked out how to do the lacing. I am really happy with the way it has turned out. I will post some pics tomorrow. I didn't have any decent period looking buckles and didn't want to wait for one to arrive so I made the buckles from scratch. Here is a bad photo of the first one I made. The second buckle is a bit better looking. -------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

Scabbard and belt are finished. It is a very secure and comfortable rig.

Hi Colin, they are standard steel rivets that I hand filed into the little flower shape. I got them from an armourer I know. I am not sure where he gets them from.-------------------- Cheers Rod www.jousting.com.au

Hi everybody,What sources is the suspension based on? I'm currently looking for sources for late 15th century southern germany sword belts and would prefer a similar suspension, but I can hardly find any sources for sword belts except simple ones only attached to thw top of the scabbard (with the scabbard then pointing vertically down, which o course does not work for a 1,3m long sword) -------------------- Diu Minnezīt Reconstruction of textiles, armour and daily life 1250,1350,1475 Nuremberg and Paris http://www.diu-minnezit.de IG Meisterhauw Reconstruction of late medieval and early renaissance fencing techniques http://www.meisterhauw.de Nuremberg in the middle ages http://www.nuernberg-im-mittelalter.de
