I read a little while ago, that although historical examples of swords, where the fuller passes under the cross-guard certainly exist, it was then, as it is today, an example of 'bad practice'.

I tried finding out why, but most books seemed mostly general histories, rather than that technical. I just read the same thing yesterday (ie: that the fuller passing under the cross-guard is an example of bad swordsmithing practice, although it is certainly authentic) I just conducted a little search but couldn't find a specific reason why fuller continuing under cross-guard is bad practice.

My thing is really armour, rather than weapons, so if anyone knows of any sources that w provide that level of detail,I would be very grateful for the references. Thanks...
