Since Historic Enterprises hasn't yet come out with their new bodkin heads, and I'm getting desperate, does anyone know where to get some affordable bodkins (i.e. $4-5 a pop?)

I intend to get some modified type 16's from HE, but I'd like to get bodkins as well.

By The Sword sells some, but they very honestly told me that they are cast rather than forged. They said they are fine for hay bales, but are not sure they would survive an impact with anything hard (a tree, etc.). That propably means they are heavy, with thick walled sockets too. I might buy a couple just to see.

I have a few of those--they're good, seem authentic, but can bend and come off. The short, machined bodkins for 80p is what I have for everyday use. Not living history grade, but unique and gets lots of comments from the field archery folks.

duh! The Archery Centre!

I just got some linen bow-strings from them.. Shoulda checked them.

The machined bodkins are a pretty cheap alternative to field points for routine shooting, but it sure looks like they'd bury themselves in trees a whole lot easier. I think I'll stick to field points for everyday shooting.

One of the points they sell is a commercially machined/cut bodkin style point with a standard round socket. Not period but looks less obvious than modern points. I had a couple of batches gun-blued to make them dark and use them for practice and non LH events so I don't get my regular bodkins stuck and shred the targets.
