whatya think? i have some close up pictures of jeff's guants that i was going to send to clang (mark). he said he would change the guantlets to be more historic if needed to.

what these work for LH standards and quality? i think with the few tweeks in authintisity they would be just as good if not better than the Best Armour (cheq) ones.

BUT! would a 1471 foot soilder in england be wearing melanise (sp) guantlets?

Hi Wolf,

I think they would work fine. i don't know about what finish you are considering, but far too few pieces out there are black from the forge - my upcoming helmet project from Patrick Thadden is going to be a black piece (it should be very, very interesting, and I'll keep you all updated - eventually I'll be writing an article about the helmet form for the Mail Research Society Journal)

Regarding what a soldier in England would wear - Tobias Capwel is of the opinion that a lot of munition quality milanese armour was imported, and from my research into the Howard books, he has reluctantly dragged me along to that conclusion - we usually associate Milanese armour with the top end gear, but often forget the bulk of their production was munition harness exported over the whole of Europe.

I'd say go for it. Even if guantlets were only occassionaly worn for that class of soldier (although you see billmen wearing them in the Beauchamp Pagent), they are a neccessity for reenactment combat.
