Good and Cheap are unfortunatley often mutually exclusive. Lutel might be a middle of the road acceptable solution. Amrs and Armour makes swords that the HAGS crew at the Higgins use almost exclusively, and reccomend highly.

I know a few people who have lutel swords.
they look nice but the steel is pretty soft. it gets dents VERY quickly. also, they are a bit on the heavy side and the balance is pretty far away from the hilt. not to say that this isnt historic, but for most purposes a blunt sword is used, i think its better to have the balance more towards the hilt. imho, at least

but still, they look really nice

Albion is coming out with a new "Squire" line which will be blunts and all under 400USD. Same qualilty but with plainer furniture and less of a polish. The 15th century one looks real nice. Sadly enough they will not be out until the fall but I am looking forward to getting one.
Best regards,
Ryan

This is what I use for short sword training. Its pretty simple and sturdy. Costs somewhere around 80 Euros and quality is still good. I would rather break one of those than one of those > 400 Euro swords.

Well, I have few swords, the cheap one cost me 70euro, I`ve had it in few battles and everything is ok so far. All people from our brotherhood buy swords from him.
He doesn`t have a website and he doesn`t speak english, if you are interested just mail me.

Still looking
Lutel's are nigh impossible to get apprently. They seem to not want anymore bis than they already have.

So far the most econmical thing i've found are the Hanwiee Practical Series. They don't last but when i look around i can find them for around $90 not a whole lot more than a waster, so it hurts less to break them than my $300 lutel did. :P

Also done I-33 "forms" with some MRL blades at speed. Again if you get em from the on sale section they are fairly cheap and still last as long as my Lutel did.

Maybe i just hit to hard, my might is just to great... i wish!!! BWahahahaha

but breaking a steel sword is far more dangerous than breaking a waster.

I would NEVER use a sword where I knew a similar model broke easy.

I remember a show where one of our swords broke. the broken piece can fly everywhere. most of the time it flys towards you or your opponent. thats bad enough, but even worse it is if a visitor of a show or battle you are participating ends up with a piece of steel sticking out of his eye.

not that i know of one that broke, but the lutels, again, use pretty soft steel. it gets dents very quickly, even if try not to parry with the edge.

but pretty they are

Scott,
Art Elwell at www.a-work-of-art.net is a distributor of Lutel in the US and has many of their swords in stock. They are not on his website but if you email him he will send a list of what he has currently available. Also he is one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with!

On average the Eagle Swords from http://www.armouronline.com/home/products/swords/make_your_ideal_sword_from_these_parts
are around $200 USD and have a warranty. You can choose what pieces its made of.

Tell them I sent you and maybe they'll start giving me a discount! lol

How about Albion's "Squire" line of blunts. Designed by Pter Johnsson, so hard to go wrong! Maybe have a "sharp" version as well. The squire line is all less than USD400.
