Author Topic: Pauldrons from H.E's Mail Call Wolf Member Member # 375 posted 03-14-2003 09:55 AM                   was watching Jeff from H.E. in Mail call the other day and something came to my attention. what kind of pauldrons was the man at arms wearing? they looked like spaulders but with a large round dish on the shoulder. never seen one look like this before. any help here? -------------------- Chuck Russell Registered: Oct 2002  |  IP: Logged hauptmann unregistered posted 03-14-2003 11:48 AM           The pauldrons are not based on anything that actually existed, and I don't particularly feel they are historical in design. The armour Henry was wearing was Valentine's version of the armours pictured in Talhoffer's fechtbuch. They have made some choices in their interpretation of the pictures that I don't agree with, and the suit looks somewhat ok from 15 feet away. The interpretation of the pictures makes me feel that Valentine really doesn't understand 15th century armour. If you're looking for armour that is suitable for "reenactment", I would recommend against this armour. It's not built very well and in some regards is quite unsafe to the wearer and a potential opponent.
