Hi guys,

I have posted this at NetSword and got some answers, but I'll try here also to see if I can get some more tips on this.

I would like to know which types of sword belt suspensions that where in use around 1360 in northern Europe (Sweden), for a crossbow guy, no knight’s stuff.

I really like this type (see link below) that was made by Peter Johnsson, but I don’t know if this still would be used in the 1360’s.
I have read that this type was used between the 12th and the early 14th century.

I'm planning to buy an Albion Acre type XII sword and this may also be a bit old fashioned by 1360 so the belt suspension (above) may, at least, work well with the sword.

As Sweden isn’t located in the centre of Europe where the fashions begun, I can guess that it took a while before the new stuff got wide spread up here.

Can anyone please help me with this?

Thank you,

Micke D

Well, I think that is the right suspension system for that sword. Both are probably a bit out of date though by 1360.

Oakeshott's Archeology of Weapons has some pictures of suspension systems for 13th and 14th century, I think, if you have that.
