With great joy I can say that I've found someone to make me a 14th cent arming coat based on the Charles de Blois porpoint.('m actually doing a jig as I type this). When making similar garments previously this Lady has always used a heavy cotton twill and we'll be using linen for mine. Can anyone suggest what weight of linen should be used for the shell and if there is a type of weave to be preferred? Suggestions of where to by the stuff would be appreciated as well.
Thanks in advance.

Dave.

Well, for a source for linen, you might try http://fabrics-store.com. I haven't actually ordered from them, I must admit (though I keep meaning to), but they seem to have a good selection of 100% linen for $5-6/yard. I can't give you much guidance as to which weight you might want (this is why I haven't ordered any yet), but they have a variety of weights and colors.
