I would like to restrap my armor and replace the all the so called period buckles that you can buy at Tandy that the armorer used. I know there are lots of sources for cast bronze and pewter buckles but none of the seems quite right. I don't know maybe it is just me. I am looking for a source of flat slightly trapazoidal steel buckles. I have some on my greaves and the chins straps of my helmet. It looks as though they were punch form steel sheet or hammered wire. does anyone make them? I would need enough to restrap my arms and legs and wide enough for 3/4" straps.

Thanks

Hi, I am pretending to be Bob. Jeff and Gwen have a trapazoidal buckle on their site. Don't know if it's what you are looking for, but it might fit the bill.

Tom Justus has quite an assortment of buckles that he produces. Most of them started as castings off of medieval originals. He tends to use them for the armour that he produces so they are good and sturdy. You could probably ask him to send you a scan of his 3/4" buckles to see if any of them suit your needs.
