This was my first attempt at raising a helm. I took over 50 pictures along the way to document it. I used probably the minimal equipment to do it, but it worked. The finished helm is a tad heavy (probably 12-14ga skull) because I used what material I had sitting around. It's not totally done. I still need to make a liner and put the final rivets in.

Hi Jacob,

Good for you for taking the time to develop one of the key skills of the Medieval armourer.

I like the essay itself as well, very informative, and complete with references. I hope it encourages beginning armourers to take that step beyond the standard methodology used by most modern armourers.


Keep up the good work. Go out of your way to look at exant examples, and always work on developing your eye for the three dimensional shape.
